1932 - Reno, NV. The Town House Casino, 39 West First Street, was licensed for slots, 21, craps and roulette. Successful for a time, in November of 1937 the Town House assets were sold at auction, with the proceeds going to the creditors. A month or so later, the Town House reopened under new ownership, and "The Riding Lesson" was adopted as the logo. Over the years there were various ownership and management changes, and varying degrees of financial success. The Club closed and filed for bankruptcy in 1950, but reopened in 1951. On September 2, 1955, the Town House was destroyed by fire; arson-the casinos leaseholder had deliberately burned the Town House down, according to the courts . |

1952 - Las Vegas, NV. The hotel was formerly known as the Sahara Hotel and Casino. It was in operation under that name for 59 years from 1952 to 2011. The hotel had 1,720 guestrooms and suites with a casino covering more than 85,000 square feet and sits on 55 acres including the empty adjoining land. The hotel is the site of the Sahara Ave station, the northernmost stop for the Las Vegas Monorail. The Sahara was one of the last remaining vintage "Rat Pack" casino-hotels, leaving only the Flamingo, The Riviera, Caesars Palace, and The Tropicana. The Sahara anchored the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip. The porte-cochere entrance, topped by an onion-dome minaret, was designed to set the resort's warm Moroccan flavor and hospitality for arriving guests. |
